Henry completes his 4th trip around the sun!

Henry's 4th birthday landed on a Sunday.  We started the day with some balloons, a few gifts (including a Spiderman bike with training wheels - no photo evidence, yet) and some birthday cupcakes at church.

After nap time, 5 of Henry's buddies came over to celebrate with him.  The kids made their own pizzas, Audrey having masterminded the whole project.  After some free play (this was the part that Andrew "organized") the kids chowed down on pizza, a "cupcake cake" that was supposed to resemble a football (nice try, Sam's Club bakery) and juice.

His guests were Brendan, Wyatt, Zoe, Keira, and Simon.

Monday, his Mema and Baba came to surprise him with an afternoon playing hooky from school.  Lunch, Bounce 'n' Play, and supper.

Here's how Beckett felt about the whole deal.

Henry and his Mommy after completing a project with Henry's new Legos.  Zoom in to see that Henry wrote the word "Police" all by himself!

And one extra pic of our precious, wonderful 4-year-old boy.

Pumpkin Patch in the Rain

This weekend it rained. All. Weekend.  Shew!

Having a bit of cabin fever, we decided to head up to Carter's Mountain to grab a few apples and a pumpkin.  Not surprisingly, Henry was not a fan of the mud.  He wouldn't pose with me in front of the scarecrow.  But I did manage to snap a shot of him with the pumpkins.

This sweet pic is probably the last one I'll take with Beckett in this precious hat Krista's mom, Connie, made for him when he was born.  So sweet.

Happy fall, everyone!

Shout out to Aunt Jane!

Dearest Aunt Jane:

Thank you SO much for the matching jerseys for the boys!  While we don't have a picture of both of them in it, I assure you they have been carried from one room to the next, laid out on the floor--one next to the other--, held up onto Beckett's tummy by Henry and enjoyed in other ways.  As soon as we get them on the boys, we'll take a pic and post you.

You are just so precious to always be thinking of us.  We can't wait to get to TX for a visit either!

Love,
A&A

New Class, New Season

Wednesday of this week marked the first day in Henry's new class.  PreK-3.  I can't believe it.

He very much approved of his new teachers, Ms. Christy and Ms. Lauren, calling them both beautiful and saying they had kindness in their hearts.  *Momma's heart melts*

This week also marked the first game of the season.  We kicked off the season with a tailgate with the entire family.  All 6 cousins in blue & orange (Beckett's first game!).

I was able to hang out at the tailgate for an hour or so before heading home to rest during the game.

It was a wild game.  But we pulled off the win against BYU!  Go Hoos!

Jumping boy!

Beckett had all kinds of things to say while he was jumping.

Big Boy Bed

On Friday of last week, on a whim, Henry and I were talking about his crib and I blurted out, "Do you want to help daddy take down your crib?"  To which he replied: "Yeah!"

Do not even ask me why I picked RIGHT NOW to bring this up.  Not only can I help do any normal things, I can't do a thing to help with any extra stuff---like transitioning H to his big boy bed.

But the window was open.  So we went with it.

On Sunday, Henry helped Andrew take down his crib.

It took a couple of nights with Andrew having to go to sleep with him.  We wondered if this would have to be the pattern for a while.  Until Wednesday night.

We tucked him in.  He went right to sleep.  And we didn't hear from him until the next morning.

What a big boy!

Beckett's New Trick

Rolling over!  In two days he has turned into a pro!

Happy day with Mommy!

This is the sweet face we see every time we go into B's room for wake up time. What a happy baby!

We are practicing sitting up and playing with so many toys!

Still a little wobbly (I think he gets that from Baba)!

Sometimes, as Henry says, he balances his balance!

Baltimore Part 1

Andrew has more pics.  But here are a few from this past weekend's adventures in Baltimore.

This is a random shot, I know.  But I want to remember this blessing.  As Andrew said, on our way up we drove into the teeth of Friday afternoon traffic from DC to Baltimore.  When I needed to feed B, we took a random exit off of the beltway, took a random side road and found THIS parking lot.  No cars, shady, a perfect place to relax and for Henry to run around.

The boys did amazing in the hotel.  Henry logged a lot of time on the iPad.  But, hey, it's vacation!

Enjoying the harbor and its tall ships!

Beckett ready to go to his first O's game.

Honey Jalapeno Cole Slaw

A colleague gave me this fantastic recipe, courtesy of her father.  A perfect summer salad (no dairy!).  I want to pin it to Pinterest and the only way I know how is to post it here first.

Honey Jalapeno Cole Slaw
6-7 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup diced red bell pepper
1/2 cup diced yellow bell pepper
1 cup carrot (per Dad!)
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped (1/2 cup)

Vinaigrette
1/2 - whole jalapeno pepper, seeded
2-3 green onions, roughly chopped
2-4 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons sherry
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1-1/2 tablespoons honey
1-2 tablespoons cilantro
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
2/3 cup salad oil
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

1 - In a large bowl combine cabbage, peppers, onions and cilantro
2 - To make the dressing, place all vinaigrette ingredients except oil in a food processor or blender; puree.
In a slow steady stream add oil until incorporated.
Pour over cabbage mixture; toss.
Chill for at least an hour before serving.
Makes 8 cups salad.

Exersaucer Time!

I really can't believe he is this big already.

Trying to soak it all in.

Spring & Mother's Day

I have been so proud of my flowers this spring.  For those who don't know, I'm not very good at growing things.  But for some reason, my irises finally took off after a couple of years.  So much so that now I need to thin them!  :)

On Mother's Day, Andrew planned a family picnic under my favorite tree in town.  Look at that tree.  Isn't it amazing?!

The Dodson Clan: Sneak Peak

I'm going to warn you.  There is a ridiculous amount of cuteness below.  Don't say I didn't tell you so.

A few weeks ago, the entire Dodson clan gathered in Richmond for a photo shoot--a Christmas gift for my mom.  The photographer was amazing.  She knew just how to handle the kiddos.  (Please visit her website: http://kristinsewardphotography.com/ and if you're in Richmond, look her up.  She's fabulous!)

There are even more of these to come.  And thank you so much to Kristin Seward for allowing me to post these here.
